AN
OCEANFRONT RETREAT ON FORT LAUDERDALE’S EMERALD COAST. |

INTERIOR DESIGN Richerson Interiors, Coral Springs, FL DESIGNER Jenifer Howard Zub PHOTOGRAPHY John Stillman WRITTEN BY Jenifer Zub & Diane Cohen |

Having
to design and decorate a breathaking ocean front condo for the perfect
client is every decorator's dream. Our dream came true for this client's
vacation residence at the Aquazul on Ocean Drive.
We designed a custom china cabinet to complement the dining room table and chairs owned by our client. We fell in love with an italian chandelier that looked like glass bubbles floating above the table. In
the living room, we accented two royal blue sofas with a custom dyed
tibetan rug, silvery-blue beaded pillows, and round mirrored pedestals.
A major obstacle in the design plan was a giant column that showed
up in the living room instead of on the terrace where it was on the
original floor plan. We finished the column in a blue/green metallic
that looked spectacular against the backdrop of silvery mesh sheers
that framed wall to wall ocean views. Since the client is well known for her fabulous powder rooms, we wanted to make this one extra special (upper left picture). We finished her powder bath walls with a shimmery blue/green finish and used multi colored blue mosaic inserts on the floor. Ultra modern plumbing fixtures and a custom cast aqua blue glass sink added the finishing touches. The master bath was totally redesigned. We used sea green glass tiles on the shower walls and floor. Since the shower divides the his & hers areas of the bath, we used frameless glass doors to keep the two sides connected. The remaining floor area, tub deck and counters were done in caribbean blue quartz. The stormy, blue-grey colors made the bath resemble a stormy sea. A new airjet tub, with chromatherapy lighting, added a final touch to this spa-like retreat. Originally modern and non-descript, the space within this magnificent condominium is now an elegant, yet thoroughly livable and relaxed escape by the sea. SOURCES |

All-pro
NFL cornerback, Ty Law is a laid-back kind of guy. Away from the
hustle and bustle of football, he enjoys looking through interior design
magazines
and has a keen taste for class and his own earthy style. A former
student of the Universlty of Michigan who lives equally between Kansas
City & South
Florida, Ty absolutely loves to keep up with the most current design
trends. This is obvious in his opulent, yet chic, 5-bedroom home
in Plantation, Florida, where he chose from one of the top ASID designers,
Cecil Hayes,
to manifest his design ideas and desires into a visual reality. The pool area and hut is a wonderful party area and can handle a crowd of up to 150 people. Its mystical theme and beauty continues inside the home with a 350- gallon aquarium and custom 'created by Cecil' waterfall for the foyer area. Upon entering the home, you are greeted by the sight and sounds of trickling water coming from an 18-foot stainless steel pond filled with black gold fish. There are Morrocan
influences, which is made evident by fluted columns designed by Hayes
and custom made by her husband and Master Craftsman, Powell, at her
in-house manufacturing division. These columns were made of Japanese
ash, a wood that is used throughout the home. There's a real fiber optic feature in the skylights that allow him to look up and feel as if the stars are twinkling down at him. Law says he didn't want to seem overly grand, but by the same token, he wanted to exude, "This is my house, and this is a reflection of who I am", proudly stating some of his achievements. Ty said, "Cecil Hayes truly understood what I wanted and made it come together in an unmatchable way." SOURCES Pool Area |
